It’s certainly looking like May is a good month to be a fan of all things Warhammer. If you’re a fan, I recommend marking the 21st of May down in your diaries as that’s when Warhammer Skulls, the annual showcase and celebration of all Warhammer video games, is back for it’s tenth edition.
This means that we’re due some announcements regarding Warhammer’s already existing line-up of extremely good games — such as Space Marine 2, Darktide, Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy, all set within the disastrous 41st Millennium — as well as the chance to hear about some new ones. Never played any of these games before? Well, fret not young Space Marine; as, to celebrate, there’ll also be major discounts on Warhammer games across most major platforms.
The biggest news coming out of the Warhammer camp, prior to the Skulls event, was the confirmation of the release date for the highly anticipated Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus 2. This game comes out on the same day the event starts. You’ll be thrust into the shoes of the Adeptus Mechanicus, looking to protect technology from the foul Necron scourge — or, for the very first time, play as the Necrons in their own narrative campaign, under the command of legendary figure Vargard Nefershah.
For me the most exciting news is that of Boltgun 2, the sequel to the original Boltgun game. It took inspiration from self-proclaimed ‘boomer shooters’ such as the original Doom, and gave them a 40,000 coat of paint (you can find our thoughts on the original Boltgun here).
As a personal wishlist item, I hope to see more customisation coming to Space Marine 2 in the form of new armour sets and new classes. Fingers crossed!
