Nintendo Switch 2 version of Minecraft announced, will launch with volumetric fog, directional lighting and more
Sometimes its hard to imagine that Minecraft has been out since 2009, not least because most don’t know its story of becoming a household brand from such a small, humble indie game. Over the years, it’s come out on basically every single console (even on mobile). I’ve now got so many versions of Minecraft in my house; Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch… and now Minecraft is coming out on the Nintendo Switch 2.
With this console port, Minecraft will have their biggest visual graphics update to date, which will come enabled as the default graphic setting in the Nintendo Switch 2 version. This update is based around their June 2025 update, Vibrant Visuals, which transforms the way players experience Minecraft through adding directional lighting, volumetric fog and much more. Of course, this is something that does struggle to run on some lower-end devices, like on older Xbox consoles, but when you can see it the results are extremely visually pleasing with soft details of lighting on water and clouds that stretch all the way across the sky.
Alongside the Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 port, there will be an update to the popular Super Mario Mash-up Pack, which will use the Vibrant Visual graphics to make these textures, music, skins and more super high-quality and visually pleasing. You will be able to bring the world of Mario into Minecraft and explore various locations inspired by the Super Mario Bros series. These are places like Peach’s castle, Delfino Plaza, and much more.
Yet another classic is making it’s way onto the Nintendo Switch 2!
