Extreme Outliars – How well do you want to know your friends
Extreme Outliars are one of those types of games where you are sort of getting to over-know your friends, through rude questions that dig into your opinions on various things in the world. The actual design of how you play the game is the most interesting part of Extreme Outliars to me – the box becomes the score keeper along with a large display to show the extremes of a card.
The game works in a way that everyone gets a token at the start of each round. This token tells you if you are a liar or if you are telling a truth. There is one liar per round. Once everyone has seen what they are, a card is selected from the deck and put onto the board, showing the question and some guidelines for each extreme, which line up with lines on the display, to give people places to put there opinions.
These questions are for a 17 and above audience – some have to do with your personal relationships, others with your opinions on incest or with people’s possible criminal convictions. Some are just weird like how likely are you to use your toothbrush after it had fallen in the toilet. There are four decks of cards, so plenty to actually play around with!
In Extreme Outliars, one by one, everyone needs to declare their answer and move their name on the chart. Then there is a sort of debate and everyone votes on who the liar is, pointing at them at the same time and then revealing their token. Points are awarded and everything is reset! This is a very interesting game, though you do need to have the right group of friends. Our friend group sometimes argued about the extremes, with two people agreeing and everyone else disagreeing, just to find out one of the two agreeing people were a liar. You’ll discover some very strange things about individuals.
