Codenames: Fairy Tales Expansion Pack expands it with classic fairy tale words!

Codenames is an iconic tabletop game that has been around for many, many years. The base game does have plenty of different cards, which are all double-sided, so you can find tons of content, however they’ve also released a few expansion packs. The Codenames: Fairy Tales Expansion Pack adds in 50 fairy-tale themed words, with names of iconic fairy tale characters, the tales themselves, and fairy tale themed objects.

In the base game, of Codenames you are creating a grid of words, splitting into two teams, and then having a team leader try to link together the words that you need to discover, without you discovering bystander cards, the other team’s cards or the assassin. It’s a simple concept, and a very fun one once it gets going! The Fairy Tales Expansion Pack is a quick, cheap way to add a little more fun.

These different cards do have a fairy tale symbol, so you can add them into your main game and still know which came with the base game and which did not. The cards themselves are very well written, double sided, and there is enough to do a full grid of just fairy tale words – but that does add a lot of challenge as it’s more difficult to connect them through word association. We found that all of these words fit the new theme well.

Inside the pack, there are also three of the agents tokens; a red Little Red Riding Hood, a Blue Gingerbread Man, and a Green Puss and Boots, so that you can use this expansion with either Codenames or Codenames: Duet. I almost wish there was a full pack of these, as they are SO cute. It’s a great addition to the base game, especially if you are a fan of fairy tales.

If you do play Codenames: Pictures, the Codenames Fairy Tales Expansion Pack also has two cards, both double-sided, that can seamlessly fit into your Codenames: Pictures edition.

You can find the Codenames Fairy Tale Expansion Pack on Amazon.
