Culdcept The First Remake’s Demo is now live, and your cards carry over to the full release

Culdcept The First, originally released back on the Sega Saturn in 1997, has an upcoming remaster, and that remaster — from Clear River Games and City Connection — now has a demo available through Steam right now, allowing you to get started (and familiar with) building, battling and playing.

Audiences will have the opportunity to try Culdcept The First through the demo in the run up to the PC release which is scheduled for the 30th of July. The first game in the Culdcept series lets players step into the magical continent of Bablashca and become a “Cepter”, using use pre-constructed decks in battle to defeat opponents and navigate maps with dice rolls and luck.

The demo will feature one level from the game’s story mode as well as one level from the game’s battle mode and also allows players to earn cards which can then — as a cool feature — be carried over to the main game when it is released, giving those that try the demo a chance to establish a more tailored book upon release. These cards are rewarded after every match, based on your ranking, with the rewards consisting of random cards to help flesh out decks and build stronger combinations.

Some of the new, expected additions for Culdcept The First are quick saves and rewind mechanics, which allow for more forgiving gameplay as well as general quality of life updates (including full English support).

The remake was initially announced alongside the release of Culdcept Begins — which you can read our recent preview of — a prequel to the the series that features new characters and over 400 cards and is designed to serve as a great entry point to the series with in-depth tutorials and careful introduction to some of the more unique mechanics.

You can find the Culdcept The First’s demo on Steam now. After its PC launch, it’s expected to release on consoles further down the line.
