Orchestrated destruction game Teardown is somewhat of an indie darling, and a new update will allow players to group up for precise placements, careful crashing and inevitable improvisation. The free Teardown multiplayer update drops onto PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles on the 15th September.
Teardown may be a game about wanton destruction at first, but the challenge of how best to cause that destruction (in as fast a time as possible in some cases) keeps the 15-hour campaign fresh. Multiplayer is sure to be worth re-experiencing the campaign, and I don’t doubt that it’ll make some missions harder rather than easier…
Full co-op campaign
Teardown is in no small part a game about planning and tight execution as much as it is about watching the fireworks (sometimes literal fireworks). Adding co-op to the campaign can make the entire experience more approachable for even more players, who might have dropped off when the later levels got a little too demanding. In co-op, you can role-share and only have to focus on one part of the picture, rather than keeping information about an entire map in your head at all times.
Of course, having other players around also gives them plenty of opportunity to mark the wrong passages, blow up the wrong walls and steal the wrong items…but what else are friends for?
12-player multiplayer lobbies for campaign or extra modes
It’s not just the campaign that’s open to co-op play now, as the multiplayer update also adds support for official and player-made game modes (which have been slowly building up on the Steam version of Teardown which sits at Overwhelmingly Positive). The community is strong, and these game modes range from Team Deathmatch to competitive heisting and even magnet fishing!
If this all sounds far too high production value, there’s an additional 30 modes coming on release that include all your friendslop favourites: Battle royale, prop hunt and zombie survival modes. Teardown is a fantastic vessel for these sorts of community-style game modes, as the base game functions to simulate vehicles, motion and destruction like no other game does. Teardown’s engine and mechanics combined with 12-player party modes is a no-brainer.
The free multiplayer update comes to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles on 15th September (and all this content is, or will be, available on PC via Steam workshop and update packs)
