Trading cards are everywhere, so I wasn’t too surprised when McDonald’s released McDonald’s CARDS as a part of their ‘McDonald’s Universe’. You can now order specific meals (not Happy Meals!) to gain packs of cards that you can open and collect.
Accodingly, you can order a McDonald’s CARDS meal: Big Mac meal, Double Big Mac Meal, 9 McNuggets Meal, 9 Spicy McNuggets meal or a McPlant meal. Inside your meal, you will find a pack of four cards, one of which will reward you with an item of food as a reward.
This sort of reminds me of McDonald’s regular Monopoly campaign, where there are sets of cards that can be collected to get prizes. Some of the prizes include merch like T-Shirts and collectable tins, while others include cash prizes. There is one super rare chase card among this set that instantly wins you £10k, while other prizes are split across the other cards… there are a lot that can be collected!
The cards each come in one of four different categories, one of which is a Legendary Category – this is apparently quite rare, although I do have to admit that I keep getting cards from this category at their events. On the back of these cards, there are codes that you can put into the McDonald’s app so that you can have a digital album collection to keep track of what cards you’ve got as well as the offers you have won.
I am personally quite surprised that these cards don’t have a game element to them, as it feels like you could do some sort of battling or even category matching (like Top Trumps), but love the various designs – with a sprinkle of retro put in there! I can see fans of McDonald’s over the years really enjoying a lot of the classic artwork and I do think the Fan cards within the current selection are so much fun as well.
