Hello board game fans! Join me as we say goodbye to this year’s devastatingly hot summer and we finally enter the “ber” months, where we switch rapidly to staying inside and drinking hot chocolate. Surely, now, there is simply no better time to check out the best board games coming to crowdfunding in September 2026. DC Deck-Building Game: Green Lantern Corps
Currently a hot topic with the release of the new Lanterns TV series, now we get the Green Lantern Corps deck building game.
Cryptozoic Entertainment is taking its long-running DC Deck-Building Game into the cosmos with this new standalone game focused on the Green Lantern Corps. Using the Cerberus: Heroes Engine, players will build their decks while managing Power Ring tokens, transforming cards into more powerful versions and shifting between the different Lantern Corps. The game also introduces Hard-Light Constructs, Dual cards and Weakness cards that can potentially be turned to your advantage.
The Kickstarter campaign offers plenty beyond the core game, including Crisis Expansion Pack 6: Witching Hour, Crisis Expansion Pack 7: War of Light, a crossover pack and a Rebirth one-shot featuring characters including John Stewart (my favourite Green Lantern), Supergirl, Hawkgirl and Lobo. There’s also a Green Lantern travel box, Kickstarter-exclusive playmats and a rather splendid collection of eight light-up Lantern Corps rings. The campaign runs until 23 September 2026, with pledges starting at $75.

Food Chain Magnate Special Edition Redux
If you thought that running a fast-food empire was stressful the first time around, Lucky Duck Games is giving you a new opportunity to discover just how ruthlessly capitalism can ruin your evening. This new edition of Food Chain Magnate brings the acclaimed, famously unforgiving economic strategy game back to the table, with players competing to build the most successful restaurant chain through hiring staff, marketing, producing food and managing their growing business.
If, like me, you haven’t owned the game before, and even if you haven’t been lucky enough to get a game in, this new Special Edition Redux offers a new refreshed presentation, while incorporating the Ketchup Mechanism & Other Ideas expansion as well as more content, or more condiments if you’ll forgive my food thinking. There is little room for error: your decisions around staffing, advertising, pricing and expansion can create an unstoppable business, or leave you watching your competitors drive off with your customers. If you enjoy a heavy strategic game where every decision matters, I think this is one you should check out.
Of special note are the pieces available in this upgrade such as the amazing organisational trays, the larger 3D buildings and the tear resistant and spill proof cash you get. I am a sucker for some snazzy game components.

Slay the Spire: The Board Game – Downfall
Now, I might be cheating a little with this one, as its funded, and accepting late pledges. But as its for Slay the Spire, which no one can deny is hugely successful, I felt it was worth adding to this months listing.
With Slay the Spire: The Board Game – Downfall — Contention Games is returning to the Spire with the first major expansion for its hugely popular cooperative deckbuilding adaptation. Downfall flips the premise on its head, allowing players to take on the roles of four of the Spire’s former enemies: the Slime Boss, Guardian, Hexaghost and Hermit. Each brings their own abilities and approach to deckbuilding as players work together to defeat Neow and face a collection of new challenges and bosses.
The campaign also includes a reprint of the original Slay the Spire: The Board Game, alongside Downfall and a sizeable collection of upgraded components and extras depending on the pledge. With more characters, cards, relics, encounters and bosses, Downfall looks set to add a substantial amount of content to an already excellent adaptation of the video game.
I must also highlight how cool the Hexadie looks. I want to check out the foil cards, but that dice keeps on distracting me. I must have it. The different pledge levels are very different levels to what you get, its well worth taking your time to choose the right level for you. But don’t wait too long!
The original campaign raised more than $7.6 million from over 38,000 backers, and the project is now available through Gamefound as a late pledge.
