Draco Ideas, a popular publisher of board games, has released their newest conquest into the wild for funding, called Dark Kingdoms.
Dark Kingdoms is set in 5th-century Britannia, and will allow up to two to four players to take control of a specific faction and it’s leader. The Saxons of Cerdic in the south; the Angles of Eomer in the East; Hengists Jutes in the North, and finally Vorigern’s Britons. Dark Kingdoms is listed as a tactical strategy game, and we’ve previously covered a few of Draco Ideas’ games before – namely Hispania and Scope: Panzer – and one of the main things we enjoyed was the difficulty and strategy involved, something Dark Kingdoms seems to be continuing a trend of.
So, how do we play? Well, we have several goals we can accomplish in our quest to rule over Britannia and it’s people with an iron first. We must manage our resources wisely, whether it be wood, iron or gold, as the war is long and we’re going to need them. We’ll also be building fortresses, expanding our settlements, and building a fleet that ensures total control over both the land, and our enemies. If you’re the kind of person who likes to take the fight to your enemy, rest assured there’s plenty of opportunity to do so.
For me, I think the thing I’m most excited about is the two vs two mode Dark Kingdoms supplies, meaning you can forge an uneasy alliance with a friend to take down two of your other friends who you thought you once knew. After a little digging, there were a few concerns that Dark Kingdoms would be similar to one of Draco Ideas’ earlier releases, Reconquista. However, backers need not worry; there are plenty of differences between the two games that means Dark Kingdoms isn’t simply another game with a coat of paint slapped on it.
