Our Picks from the Steam Cooking Fest

0

I am a huge fan of cooking games and have played a large number of them over the years. When it comes to cooking, there are so many ways that games go about it. The Steam Cooking Fest appeared, from now until the 19th of October, where you can get some great savings on a bunch of cooking games – I was excited.

We’ve hand selected some for you below:

Feed the Scorchpot

“If you love Catan and want to play solo with some extra videogame-y shenanigans, then this game is perfect for you. Or, maybe you just want something a little more cerebral than the genre’s saturated catalogue, with a beautiful “tapestry art” style to-boot! Feed the Scorchpot might not be for everyone, but don’t let that stop you seeing if it is for you.”

Pekoe

“Pekoe feels like a wonderful, cozy game with so many stories, cats, and different cups of tea. It’s a relaxing story to play through, as you discover the secrets behind this small town.”

Brewmaster

“Brewmaster is a true labour of love, and if you do have an interest (and an understanding) in home brewing, then it is definitely worth a few hours of your time. Don’t expect instant gratification, don’t come into it looking for high octane thrills, and you might just find something quite unique and interesting. For me, it might just be enough to get my old kit back out of the garage one last time.”

Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!

“Cook Serve Delicious 2 is a real gem, somehow channeling the best bits of mini-games and quick-time events with a funny, charming, cooking setting. If you can handle the speed of the game then it’s well worth a try. Even then, there’s the zen mode and the fact that the game’s pace rises and falls based on your actions — struggle for a bit, set a nice menu and enjoy the game.”

Out and About

“Out and About feels very relaxing and the real-life tips are ones that you can learn from! This small town feels homely and quirky, with enough people to keep you interested in what is going on. The game is free flowing enough to just explore or cook food that you want to cook. It’s a fun time!”

Venba

“Venba is an excellent, albeit short, experience that tells a story that I haven’t seen before. That uniqueness alone should be celebrated, but the fact that the game is so well put together is a testament to the development team setting out with a vision and executing it perfectly. Whilst there are secrets here, I don’t think they are necessarily worth seeking out, so the only real issue I might have is that this is a short, one-and-done experience. Not that I mind though, as I’d certainly prefer a tight, well-made, sub-two-hour experience over a twenty-hour slog, so even the length gets a tick in my recipe book.”

Venba – Tasty!

Hungry Horrors

“Hungry Horrors is a solid deckbuilder with an excellent theme and presentation. It’s a genre I occasionally feel burned out on, but this is one that I’m always keen to have another run on. Considering it’s in Early Access, it feels mechanically complete, so I feel you could play it in its current state without feeling hard done by. The nerd in me liked learning about different British folk horrors too, which is done as you meet them on your journey. As a neat variation on the genre, Hungry Horrors is worth sinking your teeth into.”

Good Pizza, Great Pizza

“Good Pizza, Great Pizza – a little pizzeria management game, has a limited time event that’s inspired by dungeons and dragons, tabletop RPG and adventure! This fantastic pizza-related game does have a lot of different updates, often adding different items, decorations, and storylines.”

NuloNiku: Bowl Up!

“As a lover of cooking games, I very much enjoyed my time with KuloNiku: Bowl Up! It’s a game that feels well designed, it doesn’t get too repetitive due to the number of mini-games there are and the split between the days of the week. It feels cute, fun, and like there is something else to discover along the way as well.”

Overcooked!

“Overcooked has inspired so many other couch co-op games and really brought more fun to everyone’s front rooms over the years. It’s been amazing to see their journey grow, more levels be added, and to see what else they’ve had in store for us.”
