Overdrive GRIP: XR announced alongside playable demo
Caged Element Inc, who released GRIP: Combat Racing back in 2018, have just revealed its sequel, Overdrive GRIP: XR, and have released a playable demo to celebrate.
We previously previewed GRIP: Combat Racing:
“Regardless, I can say for me at least, this is to be considered a worthy sequel to Rollcage, in every aspect but its name. Whether you are racing on the walls or ceiling (literally), using your weapons to take out the other drivers, or simple pushing your reactions to the limit, this will make you smile.”
Overdrive GRIP: XR is a fast paced, physics-defying and action-packed racer that’s meant to retain the best aspects of the first GRIP, while also bringing in new exciting features and pushing a more retro-inspired aesthetic. There’s a big focus on community feedback, creating a game that has all of the updates and features that fans of the previous game asked for.
Some of the new features include Crank, which they describe as a game-changing mechanic that allows players to roll their car, near-instantly, to easily traverse onto vertical walls, dodge incoming projectiles, execute manoeuvres, and pull off stunts. Through community feedback, they’ve added in smoother driving, improved level designs, and more vibrant visuals. These community-based feedback updates are such a good way to make the game more fun. The audio itself is also more impactful, with soundtracks by Cave Bat, there are some fantastic music to vibe with while racing around these tracks.
The demo for Overdrive GRIP: XR is out now, with a Kickstarter launching in June, for those looking to help expand the game’s scope beyond what is now in the demo. Kickstarter funding will fuel exciting goals like dynamic Campaign with NPC rivalries, custom tournament creator, more cars and customization, new tracks, and a console version of the game with crossplay further down the line.
