Death Howl Becomes Even More Soulslike with Free New Game Plus Mode

The new Rebirth update is available for free to owners of Death Howl, adding new enemy modifiers, skins and cards to playthroughs after the first.

Death Howl’s comparison to the souls series was borne of its own Steam description, and now the self-prescribed soulslike deck builder has taken one more step toward synergy with the series that inspired it.

The Rebirth mode, only available after finishing a standard playthrough, adds a plethora of new enemy buffs and modifiers alongside sweeping changes to realmless cards. Alongside the enemy changes and cards, Ro also dons a new cape to distinguish your Rebirth playthrough even more from the original.

In our review of Death Howl we shared how the regional card system was perhaps the most intriguing element. Now, by adding in new forms for realmless cards, the deckbuilding potential across all the realms of the spirit world has been exponentially increased.

One saving grace, for those who want to experience the new content without crashing out too hard, is that Death Howl seems to be keeping its current respawn system. With the extra challenge of Rebirth they might have tweaked the system but, fortunately, we’ll still be able to bang our head against the wall until we win in the style of Elden Ring’s Stakes of Marika.

If the difficulty spike of Rebirth isn’t your thing, the brand-new Custom play mode allows you to set up bespoke encounters with modified health, card costs and more. If you never quite got a silly deck idea to work, now’s your chance to prove the concept in a custom world built for experimentation and fun.

The Rebirth update for Death Howl is available for free to players on PC, Console and through Xbox Game Pass
